Why the Min/Max Memory Is the Feature That Matters

A glance at a display tells you conditions now. What it cannot tell you is what happened at three in the morning, or during the hottest part of an afternoon while you were at work.

That is precisely when things go wrong. Enclosures overheat in the afternoon sun, or drop far colder overnight than the keeper realises, and a reptile can spend hours daily outside its safe range while every spot-check looks fine. The minimum/maximum memory records the extremes, so you can see the full daily swing rather than a snapshot.

The remote sensor matters for the same reason: it reads conditions where the animal actually is, not on the outside of the glass.

Getting Useful Readings

• Place the sensor where the animal spends its time, not tucked in a corner.
• Check the min/max after the first 24 hours. The overnight low and afternoon high are usually more revealing than anything you will catch by looking.
• For basking surface temperature, use an infrared thermometer instead — a sensor reads air temperature, and a basking rock can be far hotter than the air above it.
• Keep the sensor out of direct lamp light, which will read high.
