The Frigera Semi-Moist Soft Dog Treats Game & Chicken is made with 4.00% poultry meal and 2.00% game meal - a slightly less ordinary flavour for a dog that has stopped caring about chicken.
Key Features
- 165 g in a resealable bag
- 4.00% poultry meal and 2.00% game meal
- Soft pieces that break down for training
- No added sugar
- Produced in Belgium
No Added Sugar
- Sugar is common in soft pet treats because it keeps them pliable. Frigera use no added sugar in this range and get the softness from moisture instead
- That matters most for overweight dogs and for any dog your vet is watching, but it is a sensible default for all of them
What Semi-Moist Means
- Semi-moist sits between a dry biscuit and a wet food - around 24 per cent moisture in this range, which is what keeps the pieces soft and bendy
- That softness is the practical point. They squash into a pocket, they do not shatter into crumbs, and a dog can swallow one without stopping to chew, which is what you want mid-exercise
- It also makes them usable for puppies, for old dogs with worn or missing teeth, and for anything recovering from dental work
Using Them For Training
- Break each piece into three or four. A dog works just as hard for a crumb as for a whole treat, and you get three times the repetitions out of the bag
- Keep the pieces small enough to swallow instantly. A treat that needs chewing breaks the rhythm of a training session
- Vary what you hand over. A dog that knows exactly what is coming works less hard than one that does not
What Is In Them
- Composition: cereals and derivatives of vegetable origin, oils and fats, meat and animal by-products, propylene glycol
- Analytical constituents: protein 11.7%, fat content 5.9%, crude ash 2%, crude fibre 1%, moisture 24%
- These are a cereal-based soft treat with meat in them rather than a meat-first product. If you want the high-meat version, Frigera's grain-free range runs at 85 per cent meat
Who Makes It
- Frigera is a Belgian family business based in Maaseik, founded in 1974 and still run by the butcher family that started it. Everything here is made in Europe
- They describe themselves as the first registered Belgian pet food producer, and the range is built around snacks rather than complete food
- A 1987 founding date circulates on a number of retailer listings. Frigera's own company profile gives 1974
Good To Know
- This is a complementary feed - a treat, not a meal. It is not balanced to feed on its own
- Treats should be no more than about a tenth of what a dog eats in a day. Everything above that comes off the dinner, not on top of it
- For dogs only. These contain propylene glycol, which is permitted in dog food but is not allowed in cat food - it damages feline red blood cells. Do not share them with the cat
- Store somewhere cool and dry and reseal the pack after each use. Semi-moist treats dry out and go hard if the pack is left open
- Make sure fresh water is available at all times
