PURINA PRO PLAN FortiFlora for Cats is a daily probiotic supplement, and the most widely vet-recommended one there is. It contains a proprietary microencapsulated strain of Enterococcus faecium SF68, a beneficial bacterium that supports intestinal health and helps restore microflora balance.

The microencapsulation is the part that matters. Most probiotics lose viability before they get anywhere useful; the coating protects the bacteria through the stomach so a guaranteed level of live culture actually reaches the gut.

It comes as a palatable powder in single-dose sachets. Sprinkle one over the cat's normal food. Cats are famously difficult to give anything to, and the fact that most of them eat this willingly is a large part of why vets reach for it.

When to Use It

• Loose stools or diarrhoea from dietary upset, stress or a change of food
• During and after a course of antibiotics, which strip gut flora indiscriminately
• Flatulence and general digestive upset
• Periods of stress: a house move, boarding, a new pet, building work
• As a long-term daily supplement for a cat with a persistently sensitive gut

Nutritional additives: taurine 2,480 mg, iron (II) sulphate monohydrate (Fe 650 mg), copper (II) sulphate pentahydrate (Cu 68 mg), manganous sulphate monohydrate (Mn 240 mg), zinc sulphate monohydrate (Zn 600 mg).

How to Use

• Sprinkle the contents of one sachet daily over your cat's regular food.
• For loose stools: continue until at least 1 week after stool quality returns to normal.
• For flatulence: feed for at least 2 weeks.
• With antibiotics: give daily throughout the course and for 1 week after the last dose.
• One sachet daily can be used on a long-term basis.

Please note: this is a complementary feed, not a medicine. A cat that stops eating, has persistent diarrhoea, blood in the stool or is vomiting needs a vet, not a supplement. Cats deteriorate faster than dogs when they stop eating, so do not wait.

Storage

• Store in a cool, dry place. Keep sachets sealed until use to protect the live culture.
