The Marina Betta Waste Remover is a 29 cm hand siphon holding 30 ml, used to lift waste and uneaten food off the bottom of a small tank without disturbing the whole thing.
Key Features
- 29 cm long, which reaches the bottom of any of the Marina betta kits
- Holds 30 ml a go — enough to lift the waste from one spot before emptying
- Point and squeeze. There is no priming and no hose
- Sized for small tanks, where a full gravel vacuum is unusable
- Made by Marina, Rolf C. Hagen's entry-level aquatics brand and a sister brand to Fluval
Using It
- Squeeze the bulb, put the tip next to the waste, and release. The suction lifts the debris
- Do it every few days in an unfiltered tank. Waste left on the bottom is where the ammonia comes from
- It is not a substitute for water changes. A small unfiltered tank still needs a partial change every few days
- Rinse it in plain water after use and let it dry. Never wash it with detergent
- Watch where the tip is. A betta's fins tear easily
Good To Know
- In a tank with no filter, physically removing waste is the main thing keeping the water safe. This is a job, not a chore to skip
- 30 ml is small. A few squeezes is a spot clean, not a water change
- For anything bigger than about 10 litres, a proper gravel vacuum is quicker and does more
- Tap water must be dechlorinated before it goes back in
