The GiGwi X-mas Tales Santa Claus Catnip Cat Toy is a soft Santa with natural catnip inside, from GiGwi's Christmas range. It is sized and weighted for the thing cats actually do with a catnip toy -- grab it, bunny-kick it and throw it across the room.

Key Features

  • Natural catnip inside: Enough to get a reaction from the cats who respond to it.
  • Kick-and-toss size: Small and light enough for a cat to hold with both front paws and kick.
  • Santa shape: Part of GiGwi's seasonal X-mas Tales collection.
  • Solo play: A catnip toy is one of the few things that reliably gets a cat playing without you.
  • Gift-sized: An easy stocking filler for a cat who responds to catnip.

About The X-mas Tales Range

X-mas Tales is GiGwi's Christmas collection -- catnip toys for cats and plush squeakers for dogs, in festive shapes. It is seasonal stock, so it comes and goes through the year.

About Catnip

Catnip does not work on every cat. Roughly two thirds respond to it; the response is inherited, and kittens under about three months usually show nothing at all. If your cat ignores it, that is normal and not a fault. Leave a catnip toy out all the time and most cats stop reacting. Put it away between sessions and the effect comes back.

If Your Cat Ignores It

  • Try again in a few months. Some cats only start responding as adults.
  • Try silver vine or valerian instead -- a good proportion of the cats who do not react to catnip react to those.
  • Crush the toy between your hands first to release more of the oil.

Good To Know

  • This one is out of stock at the moment, so the page is here for reference while we wait on the next delivery.
  • The catnip here is sewn in rather than refillable, so the effect fades as the toy ages.
  • A cat who eats a lot of catnip may be sick or have loose stools briefly. It is not dangerous.
  • Some cats get rough during a catnip session. Leave them to it rather than picking them up.
  • No toy is indestructible. Check it over before every session and bin it once it splits, frays or starts shedding pieces, because swallowed fragments cause blockages.
  • Bin it once the seams open -- loose thread and filling are a swallowing risk.
  • Not a children's toy. Keep it with the pet's things.
