The GiGwi X-mas Tales Christmas Tree Refillable Catnip Cat Toy is a festive tree shape with a pocket for catnip rather than catnip sewn permanently inside. Three sachets come in the pack, and the fastener means you can replace the catnip when it loses its punch instead of replacing the toy.

Key Features

  • Refillable: A fastened pocket takes fresh catnip sachets, which is the difference between a toy that lasts a season and one that lasts years.
  • Three sachets included: Enough refills to get well past the novelty stage.
  • North American catnip: GiGwi state they use natural North American catnip.
  • Christmas tree shape: Part of GiGwi's seasonal X-mas Tales range.
  • Kick and carry size: Light enough for a cat to bunny-kick, toss and carry about.

About The X-mas Tales Range

X-mas Tales is GiGwi's Christmas collection -- catnip toys for cats and plush squeakers for dogs, in festive shapes. It is seasonal stock, so it comes and goes through the year.

About Catnip

Catnip does not work on every cat. Roughly two thirds respond to it; the response is inherited, and kittens under about three months usually show nothing at all. If your cat ignores it, that is normal and not a fault. Leave a catnip toy out all the time and most cats stop reacting. Put it away between sessions and the effect comes back. GiGwi put the figure at around 70% of cats, which is in line with the usual estimates.

Storing The Refills

  • Keep spare sachets sealed, cool and out of the light. Catnip loses its strength once it is open and warm.
  • Squeeze or crush the sachet before you put it in -- that releases the oil, which is the active part.
  • Keep the bag away from your cat. A cat who finds the refill stash will go through all of it.

Good To Know

  • This one is out of stock at the moment, so the page is here for reference while we wait on the next delivery.
  • Catnip is not harmful, but a cat who eats a lot of it may be sick or have loose stools for a while.
  • Some cats get over-stimulated and will bite or scratch during a catnip session. Let them have it out on their own rather than handling them through it.
  • No toy is indestructible. Check it over before every session and bin it once it splits, frays or starts shedding pieces, because swallowed fragments cause blockages.
  • Bin the toy once the seams open -- loose fabric and thread are a swallowing risk for cats in particular.
  • Not a children's toy. Keep it with the pet's things.
