Royal Canin Starter Mousse is a wet food from the Canine Care Nutrition range for two groups at once: weaning puppies under 2 months, and their mother towards the end of pregnancy and through lactation.

Why Weaning Needs a Special Food

Weaning is the jump from milk to solid food, and a puppy's digestive system is not yet ready for kibble. A smooth mousse gives puppies their first taste of solid food in a form they can lap and swallow easily, gentle on a digestive system that has only ever handled milk.

Feeding mother and litter the same food also simplifies things: the puppies often start by investigating what their mother is eating.

Feeding Guide

• For puppies: offer the mousse as weaning begins — typically from 3 to 4 weeks — alongside the mother's milk. It can be loosened with a little warm water at first. Follow the feeding table on the can.
• For the mother: introduce gradually across 7 days in late pregnancy. Energy needs rise sharply during lactation, so let her eat as she needs.
• Always provide fresh water, and keep it shallow enough for young puppies to reach safely.
• Move puppies onto a size-appropriate Starter or Puppy dry food as they wean.

Please note: a puppy that is not feeding, is weak or crying constantly, or has diarrhoea needs a vet quickly — very young puppies deteriorate fast.

Storage

• Store unopened cans in a cool, dry place. Once opened, cover, refrigerate and use within 24 hours.
