How To Feed It

• Feed only what the fish clear in a few minutes, once or twice a day while the water is warm.
• Go by water temperature, not the calendar. Below about 10°C pond fish stop digesting properly and feeding should stop with them.
• Scoop out anything left floating. Uneaten pond food breaks down and feeds algae instead of fish.
• Feed in the same spot each time, so you can see who is coming up and who is not.

Good To Know

• Overfeeding is behind most cloudy water and high nitrate. The food is rarely the problem; the amount almost always is.
• Keep the tub shut and somewhere cool and dry. Damp gets into fish food easily, and once it does the vitamins go and mould can follow.
• Buy a size you will finish inside a few months. A big tub left open for a year is a false economy.
• Stop feeding when the water goes below about 10°C and do not start again until it is reliably back above it.
• A pond in full sun warms faster than the air. Go by a thermometer in the water rather than by how the day feels.
