Description
Julius-K9 IDC Front Control Y-Belt - For Harness Sizes 1, 2 And 3 is the front control belt that stops an IDC harness chest strap riding up towards the neck, in the fitting for harness sizes 1, 2 and 3.
Key Features
- Holds the chest strap down where it belongs: On a dog who pulls hard, the chest strap can creep up towards the throat. The Y-belt anchors it to the belly strap so it stays on the breastbone, which is the whole point of wearing a chest-pull harness in the first place.
- A patented design, and an old one: JULIUS-K9 describe this as the upgraded version of the K9 pressure distribution Y-belt they first developed in 2003, and as patented.
- Two points of attachment: The leash can go to the ring on the Y-belt as well as to the central ring on the harness, which gives you a front point of contact for turning a dog back towards you.
- Fits either side: It attaches to either side of the chest strap, so it works for a left or a right handed handler.
- Useful on a bike: JULIUS-K9 single this out for biking, where a chest strap sliding up under the throat at speed is more than a comfort problem.
Fitting It
- Fasten the hook-and-loop along its whole length, not just at the ends. Half fastened is how it works loose.
- Set it so the chest strap sits flat on the breastbone with the dog standing square, then walk him and look again.
- Two fingers should still slide under the chest strap once the Y-belt is on. If fitting it has tightened everything up, let the harness out a little.
- Check it after the first few walks. Hook-and-loop bedding in and a dog pulling against it will shift the setting.
When It Is Worth It
- A dog who pulls hard enough to shift the chest strap up his neck. That is the case it was designed for.
- A deep chested or narrow shouldered dog, where the harness naturally wants to ride forwards.
- Biking, canicross or anything where the dog is ahead of you and under load.
- A front point of contact for training a dog out of pulling, which turns him back towards you instead of letting him lean into the harness.
- A calm dog on a normal lead walk does not need one. The harness alone is enough.
Using It Safely
- It is a fitting aid, not a correction device. It changes where the load sits; it does not teach a dog to stop pulling, and that is training.
- It only works on a JULIUS-K9 IDC harness, because it needs that harness's hook-and-loop chest strap and belly strap to anchor to.
- Take the harness and the belt off when the dog is unsupervised.
- Hand wash in cool water and let it dry naturally. Brush the hook-and-loop out when it stops gripping.
Good To Know
- This one is the fitting for harness sizes 1, 2 and 3. The belt is sized to the harness, so order it to match the harness you already have.
- Three fittings cover the range: Mini, size 0, and sizes 1, 2 and 3. Tell us your harness size if you are not certain which you need.
- JULIUS-K9 list it as compatible with their double carabiner leash, so the leash can run to both the Y-belt ring and the harness ring at once.
- It needs a JULIUS-K9 IDC harness. It will not fit a harness from another brand.
- All three fittings are showing zero stock at the moment, so ask us for the lead time before you order.
