TROVET brings you our hypoallergenic dietary food range, meticulously designed to minimise allergic reactions. All our hypoallergenic diets are founded on a single animal protein source (lamb) and a single carbohydrate source, guaranteeing a balanced blend of essential nutrients. Vitamins and minerals are naturally abundant, negating the need for synthetic additions. With suitability for lifelong feeding and added urinary acidifying agents to help prevent struvite formation, our TROVET hypoallergenic dietary food is the comprehensive solution for your pet's dietary needs.

Key Features

  • Our Hypoallergenic Dietary Food employs a single animal protein source (lamb) and one carbohydrate source (rice), ensuring the likelihood of food allergies and intolerance is minimised.
  • This dietary food aids in preventing both immunological (food allergy) and non-immunological (food intolerance) reactions that may lead to skin issues and digestive problems such as diarrhoea and vomiting.
  • Transitioning to our hypoallergenic diet can gradually alleviate itching, thus reducing behaviours like scratching, rubbing, and biting, which could otherwise lead to secondary skin lesions.
  • In addition, our product helps reduce struvite formation, offering your pet additional urinary health benefits.

Cautions and Recommendations

While our Hypoallergenic Dietary Food is created to cater to pets with food hypersensitivity, it is not suitable for kittens, cats in gestation or lactation, pets with a hypersensitivity to lamb protein, or those currently on a full dose of urinary acidifiers. Furthermore, it should not be used in cases of urate, cystine and calcium oxalate urolithiasis. For optimal benefits and safety, it is recommended to seek a vet's advice before use.

Application advice

It is recommended that a veterinarian’s opinion is sought before use. The recommended duration of use for Hypoallergenic (Lamb) is initially 3-8 weeks in case of food allergy or food intolerance and at most 6 months for the reduction of reocurring struvite formation. After extension of prescription, Hypoallergenic (Lamb) can be fed for life as a complete dietary food.

FAQ

Trovet has wide range of Hypoallergic food for cats. What is your advice for using this?

Food hypersensitivity can be caused by multiple factors, such as protein and carbohydrate sources (wheat gluten intolerance), feed mite, preservatives, etc. Food hypersensitivity can be present in more extreme or lesser degrees. Every animal reacts different to the same food. TROVET has a wide range of products to meet these different needs. This increases the chance that there will be an appropriate food for the individual patient. The diagnosis of food hypersensitivity will be done by your veterinarian with the help of a so called elimination diet. For 6 to 8 weeks your cat has to eat a special composed diet. This diet consists of one main (animal) protein source and one carbohydrate source*. When during this period the allergic reaction of your cat reduces, your cat was hypersensitive to a specific ingredient in the previous diet. For these cases TROVET has developed a special PURE MEAT range with unique protein sources, called Unique Protein. These products consist solely of meat and are guaranteed free of additives such as scent, color, or taste enhancers. Unique Protein is not a complete food. The choice of the protein source (lamb, rabbit, turkey, venison or horse) will be made in consultation with your veterinarian. When the ingredient causing the hypersensitivity reaction is excluded, you can choose to change to a complete wet or dry hypoallergenic variant (Hypoallergenic Lamb, Rabbit, Horse, Venison or Turkey). Another option is to continue the Unique Protein diet and complete it with a carbohydrate source and a vitamin and mineral supplement. When you are currently feeding your pet dietary food, first consult your veterinarian to see if switching is possible.

How long does hypoallergenic cat food take to work?

As your cat will need some time to clear its system of the food it is allergic to as well as to heal, you will need about 10 to 12 weeks for hypoallergenic food to work its magic. In 2 to 4 weeks, your cat should be clear of gastrointestinal issues if it's a food allergy.

What is the difference between Hypoallergenic food and Health food?

A characteristic of hypoallergenic diets is that these consist out of one carbohydrate source and one protein source. Hypoallergenic diets are often formulated with more exclusive and unique ingredients. For example: Hypoallergenic (Rabbit) contains the protein source rabbit and carbohydrate source rice. A maintenance food such as Adult or Sterilised is not suited as hypoallergenic diet. Healthy pets can always be fed a hypoallergenic food, but a patient with food allergy cannot always safely be fed a ‘regular’ food.

Can a normal cat eat hypoallergenic food?

Most hypoallergenic foods are designed to meet the needs of an adult cat, but kitten formulas are possible to find. Senior or geriatric cats should eat adult hypoallergenic cat food options, but some products may be labeled for seniors.
