ZuPreem Timothy Naturals Guinea Pig Pellets are a high-fibre daily food for adult guinea pigs, made with sun-cured timothy hay as the base, and carrying a stable source of vitamin C.

The vitamin C is not a marketing extra. Guinea pigs, almost uniquely among pets, cannot manufacture their own vitamin C and must take it in daily from food. Without it they develop scurvy, which shows as a reluctance to move, a rough coat, swollen joints and bleeding gums. Ordinary rabbit pellets do not contain it, which is why guinea pigs must never be fed rabbit food.

The word stable matters too. Vitamin C degrades quickly once a bag is opened and exposed to air and heat, so a stabilised form holds its potency for longer.

As with rabbits, pellets are a supplement rather than the diet. A guinea pig should have unlimited grass hay every day, with pellets as a measured top-up and fresh vegetables alongside.

Key Features

  • High-fibre daily pellets for adult guinea pigs
  • Stable source of vitamin C, which guinea pigs need every single day
  • Made with sun-cured timothy hay as the base
  • Uniform pellet, so a guinea pig cannot selectively pick out favourites
  • Designed to be fed alongside unlimited hay, not instead of it

Feeding Guide

  • Feed approximately 1/4 to 1/2 cup daily to an adult guinea pig.
  • Provide unlimited fresh grass hay at all times. This is the most important part of the diet and keeps the continuously growing teeth worn down.
  • Add fresh vegetables daily. Peppers are a particularly good source of additional vitamin C.
  • Always provide clean, fresh water.
  • Buy pellets in a quantity you will use within a few weeks of opening, since vitamin C degrades once the bag is open.

Please note: never feed rabbit pellets to a guinea pig. They contain no vitamin C. A guinea pig that goes off its food, becomes reluctant to move or looks hunched needs a vet promptly, as guinea pigs deteriorate quickly.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat and light, both of which degrade vitamin C.
  • Reseal the bag after each use.

The full guaranteed analysis and ingredient list are printed on the pack.
