Using A Carrier Without A Fight
- Leave it out at home with the door off and a blanket inside. A carrier that only appears before a vet trip becomes the thing the cat runs from
- Feed meals in it for a week before you need it. That is the whole trick, and it works on most cats
- Load a reluctant cat back end first, or stand the carrier on its end and lower them in. Pushing a cat in head first never works
- A top-opening or fully splittable carrier makes vet visits far easier, because the vet can examine the cat in the base rather than tipping them out
In The Car
- Put the carrier on the floor behind a front seat, or belt it onto a seat. An unsecured carrier becomes a projectile in a stop
- Never on your lap and never in the front with an active airbag
- Cover it with a light cloth. Most cats settle faster when they cannot see the world moving
- Never leave an animal in a parked car here, even briefly and even in shade. Interior temperatures climb past survivable within minutes
Which Georplast Carrier
- Panzer 50x33x31cm - the compact one, and the cheapest
- Rhino 51x34.5x33cm - a little longer and taller than the Panzer
- Rocket - the same family, in grey and navy blue
- All three are rated to 10kg, which covers any cat and a small dog
Who Makes It
- Georplast s.r.l. is an Italian manufacturer founded in 1970, based at Mezzago just outside Milan
- They injection-mould their own plastic rather than buying it in, and the whole pet range is made in Italy
- Design is done with an Italian studio, which is why the trays and carriers look less utilitarian than most of the category
Good To Know
- Maximum load 10kg. Check your animal's weight, not just whether they fit
- Not an airline-approved carrier unless your airline states otherwise. Cabin and hold requirements differ by carrier and route - confirm before you book
- Check the door latch and the shell clips every time before you lift it
- Plastic wears out. Once a tray or bowl is visibly scratched, those scratches hold bacteria and odour that washing will not shift - replace it rather than scrubbing harder
- Colours vary by batch and the photograph is a guide. Pick on size first - the colour is the part that matters least to the cat
