The Flamingo Bentonite Clumping Cat Litter with Activated Carbon, Unscented is a 12 kg bag of fine clumping bentonite litter with activated carbon granules mixed through it, and no added fragrance at all.
Key Features
- Activated carbon granules through the clay. Carbon adsorbs odour molecules onto its surface rather than masking them with perfume
- Completely unscented, which is the right choice for a cat that has refused a perfumed tray, and for anyone sensitive to fragrance themselves
- Sodium bentonite base that clumps firmly, so waste lifts out in one piece
- Fine granules of 0.3 to 1.2 mm
- Flamingo states it is also suitable for kittens
- Made by Flamingo Pet Products, a Belgian pet supplier based in Olen with more than 45 years in the trade
Getting The Best From It
- Most cats prefer a bed of litter around 5 cm deep. Too shallow and they will not dig; too deep and it tips out of the tray
- Scoop the clumps out daily and top up what you remove. Clumping litter works best when you take the waste out rather than change the whole tray
- Unscented litter depends entirely on scooping. There is no fragrance covering for a tray left a day too long
- Change litter gradually. Mix the new one in with the old over a week or so, because cats can refuse a tray that suddenly feels or smells different
- Never flush it — bentonite swells and blocks drains
- Pour slowly and from low down to keep dust down
Good To Know
- If a cat has started going outside the tray, an unscented litter is one of the first things to try. This is the unscented option in this range
- Carbon works by adsorption and it is finite. Once the tray starts to smell despite daily scooping, the litter is spent
- Fine clay tracks. A mat at the tray helps
- Cat faeces can carry toxoplasma. Anyone pregnant or immunocompromised should leave the tray to someone else, or wear gloves and wash their hands afterwards
- Unscented does not mean odourless in the bag. Clay has its own faint mineral smell
