The Four Paws Magic Coat Hypoallergenic Continuous Spray Shampoo is the oatmeal formula in a continuous-spray can. It sprays at any angle including upside down, which is what makes bellies, legs and armpits manageable.

Key Features

  • 7oz continuous spray, usable at any angle
  • Oatmeal for sensitive and irritated skin
  • Good for spot cleaning between baths
  • Part of the Four Paws Magic Coat range

Why Oatmeal

  • Colloidal oatmeal is one of the few soothing ingredients with real evidence behind it. It forms a film on the skin that holds moisture in and takes the edge off itching
  • The relief is real but temporary - days rather than weeks. It calms a flare rather than curing the cause
  • Leave it on for several minutes before rinsing. Oatmeal needs contact time and most people rinse it straight off

What Hypo-Allergenic Means Here

  • There is no legal definition of hypo-allergenic in pet shampoo. In practice it means the formula leaves out the common irritants - heavy fragrance, dyes and harsh detergents
  • It is not an allergy treatment. A dog that is allergic to its food or to dust mites will keep itching however gentle the shampoo is
  • What it is good for is a dog whose skin reacts to ordinary shampoo, and as a safe default when you do not know what is causing the itch

Bathing A Dog Properly

  • Brush the coat out before the bath, not after. Water turns a loose tangle into a solid mat
  • Wet right down to the skin before you start. A thick coat sheds water, and shampoo sitting on dry fur does nothing
  • Rinse until the water runs completely clear. Shampoo left in the coat is one of the commonest causes of itching after a bath
  • Dry the coat properly, especially in the ears, the armpits and between the toes. Damp skin under thick fur is where hot spots start

Good To Know

  • Test any new shampoo, conditioner or spray on a small patch of skin and wait a day before using it all over, particularly on a pet that already has sensitive skin
  • Keep shampoo out of the eyes and ears whatever the label says. Tearless means low-sting, not harmless
  • Never use human shampoo on a pet. Dog and cat skin has a different pH and a much thinner outer layer than ours
  • Itchy, flaky or sore skin is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Fleas, mites, food allergy and atopic dermatitis all look similar and none of them is treated by a shampoo alone. See your vet if it does not settle
