The Exo Terra TerraSky UV is an energy-efficient LED terrarium light with a fully adjustable spectrum that includes UVA and UVB — the version of the TerraSky to choose if you keep reptiles rather than plants alone.

The Real Advantage: It Lasts

Fluorescent UVB bulbs have to be replaced every six months. Their UV output decays long before the light dims, so keepers either replace bulbs on a calendar they will inevitably forget, or unknowingly leave an animal with no usable UVB for months.

The TerraSky UV uses LED chips rated for up to 20,000 hours — four years and more of UVB. Over the life of a reptile that is a meaningful difference in both cost and, more importantly, reliability.

The adjustable output is the other advantage. UVA, UVB and white light each adjust in 10% increments, so you can tune exposure to the species rather than accepting whatever a fixed bulb happens to give.

Why UVB Matters

Reptiles use UVB to make vitamin D3 in their skin, and without D3 they cannot absorb dietary calcium — however much you dust onto their food. Getting this wrong causes metabolic bone disease. UVA is a separate benefit: it stimulates appetite, activity and reproductive behaviour, and reduces stress.

Important: You Still Need a Basking Lamp

Always pair the TerraSky UV with a generous source of infrared-A (near infrared) heat, such as the Exo Terra Intense Basking Spot or a Halogen Basking Spot. LEDs run cool by design and produce almost no usable heat, and a reptile that cannot reach its preferred body temperature will not digest properly however good its UV is.

Fitting

• Extendable brackets fit all Small and Medium Natural Terrariums, and any terrarium 38 to 60 cm wide, mounting above the screen mesh.
• Can also be installed inside a terrarium using the TerraSky UV Mounting Clips, sold separately.
• Mounting inside removes the UV loss caused by screen mesh, which can filter out up to 50%.

Safety

• Do not look directly into the UV LEDs.
• Always provide a shaded area so your reptile can move out of the UV.
• IP54 means it tolerates humidity and splashing, not submersion.
