Vital Meal Gecko Food & Reptile Calcium Supplements

Vital Meal

Vital Meal makes complete powdered diets for geckos and the calcium supplements that go with them. The appeal is simple: you can raise a healthy crested gecko without ever keeping a tub of live crickets in the house. Every formula is built on human-grade ingredients, produced to HACCP standards, and mixes with plain water into a food geckos actually take.

Which Diet Do I Need?

Vital Meal splits its range by what the animal naturally eats, so start there:

• Fruits Gecko Food - freeze-dried banana with pineapple and coconut. The everyday diet for Crested, Gargoyle and Leachianus geckos. No artificial flavours or chemical additives.
• Insect Gecko Food - edible cricket protein with a balanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. For the same New Caledonian species when you want more insect content in the rotation.
• Super Green with Silkworms - freeze-dried silkworm pupae, cricket, kelp and spirulina. Highly digestible, and noticeably reduces waste odour in the enclosure.
• Cricket Gecko Food - 47% protein from crickets, black soldier fly larvae and mealworms. A full insectivore diet suitable for all reptile species, not just geckos.
• Chew Gecko Food - insect pellets, no mixing required. Each pellet carries the nutritional value of one whole cricket, so you feed the number of pellets you would have fed crickets.

Leopard Gecko keepers: the Fruits, Insect and Super Green formulas are made for New Caledonian species and should not be fed to Leopard Geckos, which are strict insectivores. The Cricket and Chew formulas are suitable for all reptile species.

Calcium: Low D3 or With D3?

Both supplements are 100% natural oyster shell calcium carbonate at 99.8% purity, milled to ultra-fine 10 micron particles so the powder actually sticks to a feeder insect instead of falling off in the tub. The only difference is the Vitamin D3 level, and it matters:

• Calcium with D3 (400,000 IU/kg) - for diurnal reptiles kept under UVB lighting.
• Calcium Low D3 (20,000 IU/kg) - for nocturnal species and any animal with little or no UVB exposure.

How Vital Meal Diets Are Prepared

The powdered diets take under a minute. Add drinking water to the powder, mix until it reaches roughly the consistency of ketchup, then serve by syringe or spoon. Prepared food should be consumed within 8 hours, so mix only what the animal will eat and make it fresh next time. The Chew pellets need no preparation at all.
