Description

The Fruitables Crunchy Cat Treats with Superfoods is a crunchy, low-calorie cat treat that pairs a named fish or poultry flavour with a fruit or vegetable - and at 1.25 calories a piece, you can hand out a decent number without wrecking the day's intake.

Key Features

  • Three flavours: Chicken with Blueberry, Tuna with Pumpkin, and Salmon with Cranberry
  • 1.25 calories per treat, 3,350 kcal/kg
  • Guaranteed analysis: crude protein 28% min, crude fat 12% min, crude fibre 8% max, moisture 10% max
  • Crunchy rather than soft, so they rattle in the bag and most cats hear the packet before they see it
  • No wheat, corn or soy, no artificial flavours or colours, and no animal by-products
  • Limited ingredient recipe - around a dozen things in each bag
  • 70g resealable pack

What The Fruit Is Actually Doing

  • Blueberry, pumpkin and cranberry are present in small amounts near the end of the ingredient list. They are not a meaningful source of nutrition at that inclusion and should not be the reason you buy
  • What they do give you is a genuinely different flavour in each bag, which matters more than it sounds - a cat that gets the same treat every day stops working for it
  • Pumpkin brings a little fibre. Not enough to manage a digestive problem; for that, Fruitables make a canned pumpkin supplement instead

Read This If Your Cat Reacts To Chicken

  • Every recipe in both Fruitables cat ranges starts with chicken meal, whatever is on the front of the bag
  • The tuna and salmon versions are chicken-based treats with tuna meal or salmon meal further down the list, there for flavour rather than as the main protein
  • If you are avoiding chicken - and chicken is one of the commonest feline food sensitivities - none of these will work for you, including the fish ones
  • If your cat is on a veterinary elimination diet, do not add any treat without asking the vet first

How Many Is Too Many

  • Each treat is 1.25 calories, which is about as low as a cat treat gets
  • A typical 4 kg indoor cat eats somewhere near 200 calories a day. A tenth of that is 20 calories, or roughly sixteen of these - so there is real room here, which is unusual
  • That is a ceiling, not a target. Use them for recall, for pilling, for getting a nervous cat to come to you - not as background grazing
  • Count them if more than one person in the house hands them out. That is how cats get fat

Using Them Well

  • Crunchy treats are the easier shape for teaching a cat to come when called, because you can throw them and a cat will chase
  • They are small and dry enough to hide a tablet against, though a determined cat will spit the tablet out and eat the treat
  • Good for carrier training - a few in the back of the carrier every day for a week before a vet visit changes the whole experience
  • Crunchy texture is not a substitute for dental care. No treat is

Who Makes It

  • Fruitables is a Manna Pro Products brand, run out of St Louis, Missouri
  • The packs state the treats are produced in the USA with globally sourced ingredients
  • Older Fruitables stock and some online listings still credit Vetscience, the company that built the brand before Manna Pro took it on

Good To Know

  • Salmon with Cranberry is currently out of stock. Chicken with Blueberry and Tuna with Pumpkin are available
  • Fruitables label these for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. They are a treat, not a meal, and are not balanced to feed on their own
  • Keep treats to about a tenth of what your pet eats in a day, and take that tenth off the dinner rather than adding it on top
  • Introduce any new treat gradually. A sudden change, or too many at once, upsets a stomach more often than the treat itself does
  • Reseal the pack and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Treats left open in UAE humidity go soft and stale quickly
  • Make sure fresh water is available at all times
  • Fruitables' own promise line on every pack is free of wheat, corn, soy and artificial flavours or colours
  • For cats and kittens over about 12 weeks old. Very young kittens should be on their food first, with treats introduced once they are eating well
