ZuPreem Bird Food & Small Animal Diets in the UAE

ZuPreem has been making diets for companion birds and exotic pets since 1964, starting with food for zoos and research institutions before bringing the same formulations to pet owners. That history matters: the company learned its nutrition on animals that could not be persuaded to eat something they disliked, and it shows in how readily birds take to the food.

The Pets Club stocks the ZuPreem range across the UAE — pelleted bird diets in every size from finch to macaw, plus foods for ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs.

Why Pellets Beat a Seed Mix

This is the single most useful thing to understand before choosing a bird food.

Given a seed mix, a parrot will eat its favourites and leave the rest. Sunflower seeds usually go first, and they are high in fat and low in the calcium and vitamin A a bird needs. The bird looks well fed because the bowl empties, but it is eating a fraction of what is in it. Selective feeding of this kind is behind a great deal of the illness seen in pet birds — poor feather quality, respiratory trouble, and, in hens, egg binding from low calcium.

A pellet solves it by construction. Every piece carries the same complete nutrition, so there is nothing to pick out. Whatever the bird eats is balanced.

The ZuPreem Ranges

Complete Daily Diets

  • FruitBlend Flavor — fruit-shaped, fruit-flavoured pellets in five colours. The easiest range to convert a seed-fed bird onto, because it looks interesting. Sizes from very small birds through to large parrots.
  • Natural — the same complete nutrition with no artificial colours or flavours. A uniform brown pellet. Choose this if you would rather avoid added colours, or if coloured droppings bother you.
  • NutBlend Flavor — nut-flavoured, for parrots that gravitate to nuts.
  • PastaBlend Flavor — pasta shapes rather than pellets, for intelligent birds that grow bored of the same shape daily.
  • VeggieBlend Flavor — vegetable-flavoured, with added vitamins A, C and E.

Each of these is a complete diet. Fed at 60% or more of daily intake, they need nothing else but fresh water and a little fresh food.

Smart Selects

A pellet-and-seed foundation diet for owners who want their bird to have some seed without giving up balanced nutrition. Fed as 60%+ of the diet, in versions for canaries and finches, budgies, cockatiels, parrots and conures, and macaws and cockatoos.

Pure Fun and Sensible Seed

These are enrichment and seed blends, not complete diets. Both are limited to up to 30% of weekly intake and should sit alongside a complete diet, never replace it. Worth reading the individual product pages before buying, as this catches people out.

Real Rewards Treats

Real fruit, nut and vegetable pieces for training and bonding. Up to 10% of the daily diet.

AvianBreeder

Enriched 20% protein diets in 18.14 kg bulk bags for breeding aviaries, in FruitBlend and Natural formulas.

Ferrets, Rabbits and Guinea Pigs

  • Premium Ferret Diet — 40% protein and 20% fat, with taurine. Ferrets are obligate carnivores and cannot live on dog or cat food.
  • Timothy Naturals Rabbit and Guinea Pig Pellets — timothy hay based. The guinea pig formula carries a stable source of vitamin C, which guinea pigs cannot make themselves and must eat every day.
  • Timothy Naturals Timothy Hay — sun-cured hay, which should be available to a rabbit or guinea pig at all times.

Converting a Bird From Seed to Pellets

Do it slowly. Mix a small amount of pellets into the usual seed and increase the proportion over several weeks. Birds are neophobic and may take a while to accept that a new object is food.

Never starve a bird onto a new diet. Small birds have very little reserve and can decline dangerously fast. Weigh your bird regularly during the changeover, and if it is losing weight or refusing to eat, go back a step and speak to an avian vet.
