Groom Professional Petcare Laundry Treatment - 400ml

The Groom Professional Petcare Laundry Treatment is a capful added to the wash, aimed at the part of pet hygiene that happens in the machine rather than in the bath -- the bedding, the towels and the crate blankets.

Key Features

• Added to the wash: One capful in with the detergent, nothing complicated
• Works at 30 degrees: Groom Professional say it is effective at low temperatures as well as hot
• Odour and stains: Aimed at the smells that survive an ordinary wash
• Lasting effect: The brand say it leaves active ingredients in the fabric after washing
• All fabrics: Bedding, towels, blankets and linens
• Size: 400ml, which Groom Professional say covers up to 20 washes

Why Washing The Bedding Is The Real Job

If there are fleas in the house, the dog is the smallest part of the problem. Around 95 per cent of a flea population is in the environment as eggs, larvae and pupae, sitting in carpet, bedding and the gaps in the sofa. That is why treating the animal alone never works, and why washing the bedding hot and vacuuming thoroughly for several weeks matters as much as the spot-on does.

How To Use It

• Add a capful to the drum with your usual detergent.
• Wash pet bedding separately from the household laundry.
• Use the hottest wash the fabric will take if you are dealing with fleas. Heat is what kills eggs and larvae.
• Dry it thoroughly. Damp bedding grows exactly what you were trying to get rid of.

Who Makes It

Groom Professional launched in 2009 on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and is sold through the grooming trade supplier Christies Direct. The range was built for working salons rather than for the bathroom cupboard, which is why so much of it comes as a concentrate and in four-litre sizes. Groom Professional say the products are manufactured in the UK.

Good To Know

• Groom Professional make strong claims for this product, including that it is scientifically proven to kill bacteria, fungi and viruses such as norovirus and MRSA, and that it eliminates fleas, ticks and mites. Those are the manufacturer's claims and we have not seen the supporting test data, so treat it as a hygienic laundry additive rather than a disinfectant to rely on clinically.
• A laundry product is not a flea treatment. Clearing an infestation needs a licensed product from your vet for every animal in the house, plus hot washing and thorough vacuuming over several weeks.
• The previous description named the active ingredient as 'Hygienic', which is not an ingredient name. Check the bottle for the actual composition.
• It is a cleaning chemical, not a grooming product. Keep it away from skin and eyes, store it somewhere cool and dry, and keep it well out of reach of children and pets.
