JBL FixSet 16/22 Hose Clips for CristalProfi

JBL FixSet 16/22 Hose Clips for CristalProfi is a set of suction clips for holding 16/22 mm filter pipework against the aquarium glass.

Key Features

• Holds the pipework where you put it: Suction clips take the inlet and outlet pipes of an external filter and hold them tight against the glass, so they stop drifting, stop rattling on the rim and stop sliding down into the tank.
• Stops a filter gulping air: An intake pipe that has worked loose and risen towards the surface starts drawing air, and that is the usual reason a canister filter suddenly gurgles, vibrates and loses its prime.
• Two spacings in the box: Clips for 2 cm and spacer clips for 3.5 cm from the pipe centre to the glass, so the pipework clears a tank brace, a rim or a background instead of fouling against it.
• Suction cups are a consumable: They harden, go cloudy and let go after a year or two in warm water. That is normal rather than a fault, and a fresh set costs a great deal less than fishing a dropped intake pipe out of a planted tank.

Matching The Set To Your Filter

• The two numbers are the hose diameters in millimetres, inside and outside, and the set has to match the pipework it is gripping.
• JBL's CristalProfi external filters run 12/16 on the e400, e700 and e900 models, 16/22 on the e1500 models and 19/25 on the e1900 models.
• The hose rolls use the same numbering, so the hose and the clips for any given filter carry the same pair of figures.
• If you are unsure, measure across the outside of your existing pipe, or send us your filter's model number and we will confirm which set you need.

Fitting Them So They Hold

• Clean the glass where the cup is going to sit. Scrape it with a blade and wipe it dry: a suction cup pressed onto a film of algae will not hold for a day.
• Wet the cup before you press it on, and press from the centre outwards so the air is pushed out rather than trapped.
• Fit the cups first and clip the pipe in afterwards. Trying to position cup and pipe together is how cups get half seated.
• Use them in pairs, one high and one lower down each pipe. A single clip in the middle still lets both ends swing.
• Keep the intake well clear of the substrate so it cannot draw sand through the impeller, and clear of the heater.

Good To Know

• Sized for 16/22 mm hose and pipework, which on JBL's range means the CristalProfi e1500 models in both generations. Check your model with us if you are not certain.
• Replace a cup as soon as it stops holding rather than wedging the pipe against the glass and hoping. A pipe that falls while you are out can empty a good part of the tank onto the floor.
• Also handy for running airline, heater cables or UV-C hose tidily down the back glass, as long as the diameter suits the clip.
