Clear Choice Crystals Silica Cat Litter, Low-Track with Indicator Crystals - 1.8KG

The Clear Choice Crystals Silica Cat Litter is a non-clumping silica crystal litter from Pestell. Each granule is full of micro-pores that work like tiny sponges, pulling moisture and odour-causing particles inside - and a handful of blue Indicator Crystals fade as they fill, so the litter tells you when it needs changing instead of leaving you to guess.

Key Features

• Indicator Crystals - blue marker granules mixed through the litter that fade after a few exposures to moisture. When they have all gone pale, it is time to replace the trayful.
• Millions of micro-pores per granule absorb and trap odour-causing particles, so odour control is immediate rather than gradual.
• Low-track formula - the granules are shaped to stay in the tray rather than ride out on paws.
• Non-clumping. Liquid is absorbed into the crystals; you scoop out solids and leave the rest.
• Light for its volume compared with clay litter - the 13.6 kg bag holds 28.5 litres.
• Pestell rates each pack per cat: 1.8 kg for one month, 3.6 kg for two, 5.4 kg for three and 13.6 kg for eight.
• The 5.4 kg comes in a resealable bucket with a carry handle and lid rather than a bag.

How To Use

• Start with a clean, dry tray.
• Pour in a layer roughly 3 to 4 cm deep. Crystal litter is used shallower than clay - deeper just wastes it.
• Scoop solids out every day.
• Stir the crystals through once a day so the moisture spreads across the whole tray instead of saturating one patch. This is the step most people skip, and it is what makes a pack last its rated time.
• Replace the whole trayful once the Indicator Crystals have faded.

Available in: 1.8 kg bag, 3.6 kg bag, 5.4 kg bucket and 13.6 kg bag.

Good To Know

• It does not clump, so you cannot see how much your cat is urinating. With clumping litter, a change in the size or number of clumps is often the first sign of diabetes or kidney disease. If your cat is older, or has any history of either, a clumping litter gives you information this one cannot.
• The supply ratings on the pack are for one cat. Two cats roughly halve them, and the litter will need changing sooner.
• Crystals feel quite different underfoot from clay or wood. Some cats dislike them, and cats with sore or sensitive paws often refuse them outright. Change over gradually - half old litter, half new, for about a week.
• A cat that suddenly starts toileting outside the tray after a litter change is telling you something. Go back to the old litter, and see a vet as well, because pain and urinary problems cause the same behaviour.
• Never flush it. Silica does not break down in water and will block a drain. It goes in the bin.
• Pour it in gently and away from your face. Silica gel is not the crystalline silica that causes lung disease, but it is still a dust and there is no reason to breathe it.
• The crystals are largely inert and usually pass straight through if a little is swallowed during grooming. A cat, kitten or dog that actually eats a quantity of it can get a stomach upset or a blockage - so if you have a tray-raiding dog or a kitten that mouths everything, use a different litter.
• Keep the bag or bucket sealed and dry. Crystals take up moisture from the air, and an open bag in UAE humidity will be partly spent before it reaches the tray.
• One litter tray per cat plus one spare, in separate places. No litter compensates for too few trays.
• If you are pregnant, ask someone else to change the tray. If you have to do it yourself, wear gloves and wash your hands afterwards - this is the standard toxoplasmosis precaution and it applies to every cat litter.
• Straining in the tray, crying, or passing little or no urine is an emergency in cats, and especially in males. See a vet straight away rather than changing the litter.
