Good To Know

  • Size a crate so the dog can stand without ducking, turn round and lie flat on its side. Much bigger and it stops feeling like a den; any smaller and it is simply too small.
  • Introduce it slowly. Feed meals inside with the door open for several days before you ever shut it, and never use it as a punishment - a dog that learns the crate means trouble will fight it for life.
  • A crate is a bed, not a holding pen. Most trainers cap daytime crating at around four hours for an adult dog and far less for a puppy, and a dog crated because it is anxious usually gets worse rather than better.
  • Take collars, harnesses and tags off before your dog goes in. Buckles and tags catch in wire, and that is a real strangulation risk when nobody is watching.
  • Do not leave a dog in this outdoors in UAE heat. Shade is not enough - an enclosed space in a UAE summer reaches lethal temperatures within minutes, and dogs shed heat far less efficiently than people do.
