The Flamingo Osto Dog Slow Feeder Bowl is a 400 ml dog bowl with a bone-shaped plastic obstacle in the middle that rotates as the dog noses at it, so a fast eater has to chase the food rather than inhale it.

Using It

• Dry food only. Wet food clogs around the rotating centre and stops it turning
• Serve the usual ration. This changes how long a meal takes, not how much is in it
• Give it a few meals before deciding. Some dogs need a session or two to work out that the bowl moves
• Take the centre out to wash it, and dry under it before reassembling
• Always leave fresh, clean drinking water alongside

Good To Know

• 400 ml is a small bowl. A large dog's meal will not fit, and a large dog will simply pick the whole insert up
• Slowing a meal is worth doing for a dog that gulps and then brings food back up, or that belches and looks uncomfortable after eating
• Fast eating is one recognised risk factor for bloat in deep-chested dogs, but no bowl prevents bloat. Sudden abdominal swelling with retching is an emergency
• The rotating part is plastic. A determined chewer will eventually wreck it, so it is not a bowl to leave down between meals
