The Flamingo Texas Bubble Knotted Rawhide Bone Dog Chew is a white rawhide bone made from 100% buffalo hide, rolled and knotted at both ends, sold in four sizes from 10-12 cm up to 38-41 cm.

• Buffalo hide and nothing else — no added flavouring, colouring or coating
• Rolled and knotted at each end, which is what makes it last. A dog has to work the knot loose before it can get at the roll
• Four sizes: 10-12 cm at 50-60 g, 17-20 cm at 170-180 g, 20-25 cm at 200-210 g and 38-41 cm at around 400 g

Choosing A Size And Using It Safely

• Buy a bone your dog cannot fit in its mouth. Size is the main safety decision with any rawhide
• Supervise every chew, from first to last. Rawhide softens as it is worked, and the danger point is when a knot comes loose and the whole end can be swallowed
• Take it away and throw it out once it is small enough to swallow, or once it has gone soft and slimy
• Do not give rawhide to a dog that gulps rather than chews, or to one that has had a blockage before
• Rinse and air-dry a part-chewed bone rather than leaving it damp, and give it a day or two between sessions
• Keep treats to roughly a tenth of the day's calories, and take the difference off the main meal
• Always leave fresh, clean drinking water alongside

Good To Know

• Rawhide is not risk-free. Choking and intestinal blockage are the recognised problems, and both come from a dog swallowing a piece rather than chewing it down. Supervision is not a formality here
• Some dogs get loose stools from rawhide. Introduce it in short sessions and see how your dog copes
• Chewing does help scrape plaque off teeth, but a chew is not a substitute for brushing, and a hard bone can crack a tooth
• Not for puppies with milk teeth, and not for a dog with dental disease
