Description
The Fluval Phosphate Remover Pads for FX Series Canister Filters is a phosphate resin-infused pad cut for Fluval's FX Series canister filters, which traps floating debris and pulls phosphate out of the water at the same time.

- Phosphate resin infused into a mechanical pad, so one layer does two jobs
- Cut to fit the FX Series canister filters
- Phosphate does not harm fish directly — it feeds algae. Removing it treats a cause rather than a symptom
- Fluval recommends replacing monthly, or when a water test says it is spent
- For use in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums

Using It
- Rinse it under running water before the first use to wash off dust
- Put it in after the mechanical stage. Chemical and biological media work on water that has already had the solids taken out of it
- Never wash biological media in tap water and never replace it all at once. Chlorine kills the bacteria living on it, and changing everything together restarts the cycle
- A liquid test kit for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tells you more about a tank than anything you can see
When To Use It
- Worth trying when algae persists in a tank where light and stocking are already under control
- Tap water in some areas carries phosphate before it reaches the tank. Test the tap as well as the tank
- Overfeeding is the other common source. Chemical removal will not outrun a heavy hand with the food
- Most tanks want 20–30% of the water changed weekly, with the replacement dechlorinated and matched for temperature
Good To Know
- Resin is finite. A saturated pad restricts flow and does nothing else
- Phosphate removal alone rarely clears algae. Light duration, stocking and feeding matter more
- Check the filter model before ordering — the FX pads do not fit the 07 Series
- A liquid test kit for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tells you more about a tank than anything you can see
