Why Upright
- Cats scratch upright to stretch the back and shoulders, and flat to mark territory. Both are normal, and most homes need one of each
- A cat should be able to reach up and stretch out fully. A post shorter than that gets used once and abandoned
- Cats scratch to shed the old claw sheath, to stretch the whole back and shoulder, and to leave scent from the glands in their paws. It is not something to train out of them
Placing It
- Put it where the cat is already scratching, not where it suits the room. Next to the sofa arm first, then move it a little at a time if you want it elsewhere
- Most homes need more than one, and cats scratch both upright and flat, so it is worth having one of each
Good To Know
- The fibre wrap frays with use. That is the surface doing its job
- This is not a climbing frame. It is a scratching post with a small base, and a cat launching off it will tip it
