The Four Paws Metal Foot Release Dog Gate is a metal pressure gate opened with a foot pedal, 32 inches high and sized for a standard doorway.
Key Features
- 32 inches high, fits openings 30 to 34 inches wide
- Foot pedal release for hands-free opening
- Powder-coated metal frame
- Pressure mounted - no tools, no damage to the frame
How A Pressure Gate Works
- Four rubber-tipped bolts push against the frame and hold the gate by friction. Nothing is screwed into the wall, so nothing is damaged
- That friction is also the limit. A pressure gate holds against a dog leaning on it; it does not hold against a dog throwing itself at it
- Tighten the bolts evenly and re-check them every few weeks. They work loose, and a loose pressure gate is the one that falls over
One-Handed Operation
- A foot pedal releases the latch, so you can open it carrying shopping, a baby or a cat
- The gate swings in one direction only when it is set up near stairs, and both ways in a doorway
- Listen for the latch. These click clearly when they are properly shut
Where A Gate Should And Should Not Go
- Never use a pressure-mounted gate at the top of a staircase. Pressure gates can be pushed out of the frame, and a gate that gives way at the top of stairs is worse than no gate at all. Hardware-mounted gates are the only safe choice there
- This is a pet gate, not a certified child safety gate. If a toddler uses the same doorway, buy a gate tested to the child standard instead
- Check the gate from your dog's side. A determined climber or a dog that can get its nose under the bottom rail will treat any gate as a puzzle rather than a barrier
