Using A Flea Comb Properly

  • Have a bowl of hot soapy water beside you and dip the comb after every stroke. Fleas jump straight off a dry comb
  • Comb along the back, the base of the tail and the belly. Those are where fleas and flea dirt gather
  • Flea dirt looks like specks of black grit. Put some on damp white tissue - if it smears reddish brown, it is digested blood and your pet has fleas
  • A comb finds fleas and removes some of them. It does not treat an infestation. For that you need a proper product from your vet, and the house treated as well as the pet
