Why pH Balanced Is The Line That Matters

• Human skin sits around pH 5.5 and is fairly acidic. Dog and cat skin sits closer to neutral, roughly pH 7 to 7.5
• That is why human wipes, baby wipes included, are the wrong tool. Used regularly they strip the protective film off a pet's skin and leave it dry and itchy - the exact problem people usually buy wipes to fix

What They Are Good For

What They Are Not

• They are not a bath. A wipe cleans the surface of the coat; it does not reach the skin under a thick or double coat, and it does not rinse anything away
• They are not a treatment. Furbath's pack says the wipes relieve itching, and a clean coat genuinely is more comfortable - but itching that keeps coming back is allergies, fleas, or a skin infection, and that needs a vet rather than more wiping
• They are not a flea control measure of any kind

Using Them On A Cat

• Cats groom off whatever you put on them, so everything on the wipe ends up being swallowed. Use less than you think and let the coat dry before the cat gets to work on it
• For cats, Purely Unscented is the sensible default. Cats have a far lower tolerance for added fragrance than dogs and a strongly scented coat is a real stressor for them
• Wipe with the lie of the coat, not against it, and stop if the cat has had enough. One calm wipe beats three that end in a fight
• Avoid the face. If you must clean around the eyes, use a plain damp cloth instead

Picking A Scent

• Neutralizing Baby Powder - aimed at smell rather than dirt
• Calming Lavender, Tantalizing Floral and Soothing Coconut are fragrance choices. Pick the one you can live with, because you will smell it more than your pet will
• Fragrance is the commonest cause of a reaction to any wipe. If your pet has ever reacted to a grooming product, start unscented

Good To Know

• All six scents are currently out of stock
• Patch test before you use a new wipe all over - one wipe on a small area, then leave it 24 hours and check for redness
• Not for use in the eyes, inside the ear canal, or on broken, raw or bleeding skin
• Furbath do not print a full ingredient list on the pack face. If your pet has a known sensitivity, the unscented version is the safer starting point
• Press the lid shut properly every time. Wipes dry out fast once the seal is broken, and faster again in UAE humidity and heat
• Bin them, never flush them. Pet wipes are not designed to break down in a drain
• Keep the pack out of reach. A dog that eats wipes is a blockage risk, and that is surgery rather than an upset stomach
