The Greenfields Puppy Shampoo is an extra-mild, pH balanced formula for puppies and for grown dogs whose skin reacts to everything else, with a soft baby powder scent instead of a strong perfume.

Key Features

  • Extra mild: Developed specifically for puppy coats and sensitive skin
  • pH balanced: Matched to dog skin, which is less acidic than ours
  • Baby powder scent: A light, soft fragrance rather than a heavy perfume
  • Sensitive skin: Greenfields also recommend it for adult dogs that react to stronger shampoos
  • Gentle on the coat: Aimed at cleaning without stripping a young coat
  • Size: 250ml bottle

Bathing A Puppy

  • Wait until a puppy is properly settled in and has had its vaccinations before the first real bath. There is rarely any hurry.
  • Lukewarm water, never hot. Puppies lose heat fast, so dry them properly and keep them somewhere warm afterwards.
  • Keep it short and make it pleasant. The first few baths set how a dog feels about being washed for the rest of its life.
  • Rinse thoroughly, towel off, and brush the coat as it dries so the puppy learns to stand for grooming.

How Often

Less than you would think. A healthy puppy needs a bath when it is actually dirty, not on a schedule -- washing a young coat repeatedly strips its oils and leaves the skin dry and itchy. Between baths, a damp cloth deals with most of what a puppy rolls in.

Who Makes It

Greenfields is part of Orange Pet Brands, based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. They say they have more than twenty years in pet care and that their shampoos are produced in the Netherlands, paraben-free, biodegradable and pH balanced.

Good To Know

  • This one is out of stock at the moment, so the page is here for reference while we wait on the next delivery.
  • A puppy that is scratching, losing hair in patches or has crusty or smelly skin needs a vet, not a bath -- mites, ringworm and fleas all look like dry skin at first.
  • This is a dog product. Do not use it on a cat -- it contains essential oils and fragrance, and several oils that are harmless to dogs are not safe for cats.
  • Keep it out of the eyes and ears. Rinse with clean water if any gets in.
  • Greenfields describe the perfume as free from allergens. That refers to the declarable fragrance allergens, not a guarantee that no animal will ever react -- stop using it if the skin goes red or itchy.
  • Read the label before use and keep it out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dark place.
