Description

The Groom Professional Pro X 4 Blade leaves roughly 9mm of coat, which is the length most owners actually want for a full body clip -- short enough to be tidy and cool, long enough that the dog still looks like itself.

Key Features

  • Number 4: Leaves around 9mm, a short but not shaved body length
  • For body clips: The usual choice for a full-body trim on a doodle, terrier or spaniel
  • Fits all snap-on clippers: The universal A5 fitting
  • Hardened steel: Built for repeated sharpening and long service
  • Precise cutting: A clean, even finish across a body coat
  • Professional grade: Built for salon use rather than as a starter blade

Reading Blade Numbers

The higher the number, the shorter the cut. A number 4 leaves about 9mm, a number 7 about 3mm, a number 10 about 1.5mm, and a number 30 almost nothing. A number 4 is the sensible default for a body clip; drop to a 10 only for sanitary areas and pads.

Do Not Shave A Double Coat

Worth knowing before you clip. Breeds with a double coat -- huskies, German shepherds, golden retrievers, spitz types -- should not be shaved short. The undercoat insulates against heat as well as cold, and shaving it can leave the coat growing back patchy and permanently changed in texture. For those breeds the answer to a hot summer is thorough de-shedding, not a clipper. Single-coated breeds such as poodles and doodles are a different matter and are meant to be clipped.

Blade Care

  • Oil it before and during every use, and wipe the excess off.
  • Check the temperature against the back of your hand regularly. A hot blade burns skin.
  • Clean it with blade wash when it starts running hot or dragging, then re-oil.
  • Store it dry and oiled, not loose in a drawer where the teeth get knocked.

Who Makes It

Groom Professional launched in 2009 on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and is sold through the grooming trade supplier Christies Direct. The range was built for working salons rather than for the bathroom cupboard, which is why so much of it comes as a concentrate and in four-litre sizes. Groom Professional say the products are manufactured in the UK.

Good To Know

  • This listing shares a SKU with the other Pro X blade on this site, at a different price. If you need a specific blade size it is worth confirming which one you are getting before you order.
  • This listing was tagged as a shedding blade. It is a snap-on clipper blade, which is a different thing.
  • Keep blades away from children -- the teeth are sharp, and store them somewhere cool and dry.
