Groom Professional Pro X 10 Blade

The Groom Professional Pro X 10 Blade is the workhorse size -- a number 10 leaves roughly 1.5mm of coat, which is the standard length for sanitary trims, pad work and the first pass on a matted dog.

Reading Blade Numbers

Blade numbers run backwards from how you might expect: the higher the number, the shorter the cut. A number 4 leaves about 9mm, a number 7 about 3mm, a number 10 about 1.5mm, and a number 30 is almost bare. Choose by how much coat you want left, and remember that a shorter blade on a nervous or thin-skinned dog gives you far less margin for error.

Blade Care

• Oil it before and during every use, and wipe the excess off.
• Check the temperature against the back of your hand regularly. A hot blade burns skin.
• Clean it with blade wash when it starts running hot or dragging, then re-oil.
• Store it dry and oiled, not loose in a drawer where the teeth get knocked.

Who Makes It

Groom Professional launched in 2009 on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and is sold through the grooming trade supplier Christies Direct. The range was built for working salons rather than for the bathroom cupboard, which is why so much of it comes as a concentrate and in four-litre sizes. Groom Professional say the products are manufactured in the UK.
