Description

Schesir Complements Tuna with Red Mullet in Jelly Can Wet Cat Food - 6 x 70 g is a complementary wet food for adult cats, real steamed tuna with red mullet in jelly, in six 70 g cans.

Key Features

  • A complementary food, not a complete diet: Schesir classes this range as complementary. Please read the two sections below before you make it your cat's only food.
  • Up to two 70 g servings a day, by the brand's own instruction: With its own warning not to exceed that, because it unbalances the diet.
  • Real steamed tuna and red mullet: Named fillet rather than a meal or a derivative.
  • High in protein, low in carbohydrate: The brand's position for the range, and the recipe is short enough to back it up.
  • Served in jelly, in a can: Jelly sets soft around the fillet; broth gives you more free liquid.

This Is A Complementary Food, Not A Diet

  • Schesir's own first line on this range is "complementary wet food for adult cats". That is a formal feeding classification, not marketing.
  • A complementary food is not formulated to supply everything a cat needs. Fed as the whole diet it comes up short on the vitamins, minerals and taurine a cat cannot do without, and the damage from that is slow and quiet rather than obvious.
  • Schesir's Complete & Balanced Nutrition range looks almost identical on a shelf and IS a complete diet. If you are buying one Schesir pack to feed and nothing else, that is the one you want. Ask us and we will point at the right shelf.

Schesir's Own Feeding Limit: Up To Two Servings A Day

  • Straight off the pack: offer as a supplement as part of a complete and balanced diet, and feed up to two 70 g servings a day.
  • And the brand's own warning alongside it, which we are not going to soften: do not give too much, to avoid unbalancing the diet.
  • That is the whole shape of this product. It goes on top of, or beside, a complete food. Two servings is the ceiling, not the target.
  • If you want to know what a complete food alongside it should be and how much, tell us your cat's weight and what it eats now, and we will work it out with you.

It Contains Rice, So This Line Is Not Grain-Free

  • The two recipes in this range that publish a full composition both list rice at 1.5%. It is a small amount, and it is still rice.
  • That matters because several other Schesir ranges are grain-free, and somebody buying across the brand would reasonably assume this one is too. It is not.
  • If you are avoiding grain, the After Dark, Silver and Baby ranges are grain-free and we will show you those instead.

What Is Actually In It

  • Real steamed fillet rather than a meal or a derivative, which is what lets the brand name the cut on the label.
  • A short recipe. The two that publish their panel read about 51% named main protein, around 4 to 5% of the second one, and 1.5% rice.
  • High in protein and low in carbohydrate, which is the brand's position for the range, and no preservatives, colourings or added sugars.
  • Steamed and hand-processed. That is also why an opened pack does not keep the way a supermarket one does.

Why A Topper Like This Is Still Worth Having

  • A wet food is roughly three-quarters water, and this is a very palatable one. Spooned over a dry food it is the easiest way to get water into a cat that will not drink from a bowl.
  • It is also the thing that gets a cat eating again when it has gone off its usual food. That is a real job, and it is the job this product is for.
  • What it is not for is being the only thing in the bowl.

Opened Tins And Pouches, In This Heat

  • Cover an opened tin or pouch, refrigerate it, and use it within a day or two.
  • Let it come back to room temperature first. Cats refuse cold food, and you will think they have gone off it when they have only objected to the fridge.
  • Do not leave wet food down for hours in a warm room. This matters a great deal more here than it does in Italy, where it was formulated.

Good To Know

  • Cats are far more stubborn about new food than dogs. Put the new food beside the old one rather than swapping the bowl in one go, and do not take one refusal as the answer.
  • Ask us for this recipe's panel and we will photograph it. Schesir publishes a full composition for only two recipes in this range, the tuna-and-hake and the chicken-and-beef, and not for this one. We would rather fetch it than guess from the family resemblance.
