Description

Schesir Complete & Balanced Tuna with Whitebait in Jelly Can Wet Cat Food - 6 x 85 g is a complete and balanced wet food for adult cats, real steamed tuna fillet with whitebait in jelly.

Key Features

  • Real steamed tuna fillet: Tuna caught in the open sea and steamed rather than rendered into a meal, which is what lets the brand name the cut.
  • Tuna with whitebait, both named: Two named ingredients, so this is not the one to buy if you are ruling either of them out.
  • High in protein, low in carbohydrate: The brand's stated position for the line, and the reason the recipe is as short as it is.
  • Served in jelly, in a can: Which is the choice that actually changes how a cat eats it, and the section below says why.
  • Recyclable aluminium can with a paper label: The brand's own packaging claim, and the more recyclable of the two formats once the meal is gone.

This Is The Complete Line, And Schesir Has A Complementary One

  • Complete and balanced, so this can be the whole diet for an adult cat.
  • Schesir also sells a line called Complements, which is a complementary food and says so on its own label. A complementary food is a topper, not a diet, and a cat fed only on one comes up short on taurine, vitamins and minerals over time.
  • The two lines look almost identical on a shelf. If you are buying one Schesir pack to feed and nothing else, this is the line you want, and we will happily point at the right shelf rather than let you guess.

Jelly Can, Broth Can Or Jelly Pouch: What Actually Differs

  • The recipe is the same fillet. What changes is how much free liquid comes with it and how the cat gets at it.
  • Jelly sets soft around the fillet and holds its shape in the bowl. Broth is looser and gives you more liquid, which is the better choice for a cat that will not drink from a bowl.
  • Pouches tear open with no tin opener and nothing to wash. Cans come in recyclable aluminium with a paper label, which is the more recyclable of the two once you are done.
  • The 50 g multi-pack cans are the small size. One is a sitting for a smaller cat with nothing left over, and Schesir fortifies those with added vitamins.

What Schesir Does Not Publish For This Line

  • No meat percentage. Not on any of the sixteen products in this range, while the After Dark and Silver ranges publish theirs.
  • So if you are comparing this against another food on the strength of a number on the front, you cannot, and nor can we pretend otherwise.
  • What the brand does state is that the fillets are real, steamed, minimally processed, and that the recipe is short. Ask us for the composition panel and we will photograph it for you. The front of a pack is not enough to compare two foods.

Wet Food And Water, Which Matters More Here

  • A wet food is roughly three-quarters water. In this climate that is water going into the cat without it having to choose to drink, and cats are famously bad at choosing to drink.
  • It also means you are buying water by weight. That is the honest reason a tin looks dear per kilogram next to a bag of kibble.

Opened Tins And Pouches, In This Heat

  • Cover an opened tin or pouch, refrigerate it, and use it within a day or two.
  • Let it come back to room temperature first. Cats refuse cold food, and you will think they have gone off it when they have only objected to the fridge.
  • Do not leave wet food down for hours in a warm room. This matters a great deal more here than it does in Italy, where it was formulated.

Good To Know

  • No preservatives, colourings or added sugars, which is also why an opened pack does not keep the way a supermarket one does.
  • Cats are far more stubborn about new food than dogs. Put the new food beside the old one rather than swapping the bowl in one go, and do not take one refusal as the answer.
  • Worth a word on the name: whitebait is the term for the fry of small fish. Schesir's description of the broth version of this recipe calls the same topping anchovies, which is consistent with that. Ask us if you need the exact species.
  • Fish only, no land meat, so this is a useful one for a cat that reacts to chicken.
  • Ask us for the composition panel and we will photograph it for you. The front of a pack is not enough to compare two foods.
