Description
Zolux Nesting Material Holder Basket for Bird Cages is an open-barred plastic basket that keeps nesting material in one place, so a bird pulls strands out as it builds rather than scattering the lot.
Key Features
- Barred cylinder, wide enough apart for a beak to reach in and pull
- Keeps loose fibre off the cage floor, where it is fouled within a day
- Lets a pair carry material to the nest themselves, which is part of pairing up
- Plain white plastic that rinses clean between clutches
Good To Know
- Never put cotton wool, wool or cut string in a cage as nesting material. Long loose fibres wrap around a toe or a leg and cut the blood supply off, and it happens overnight.
- Offer nesting material only when you mean the pair to breed. Giving it year round keeps a hen laying, and each clutch takes calcium out of her.
- A hen needs a calcium source in the cage before the first egg, not after it - a cuttlebone or a mineral block.
- Refill it rather than stuffing it tight. A packed basket gives the bird nothing to pull against and it loses interest.
