FARMA Canary Budget Mix - 20kg

The FARMA Canary Budget Mix is FARMA's economical canary feed — canary seed and rapeseed led, with bread crumbs blended through, in a 20 kg aviary sack.

Key Features

• Nine seeds plus bread crumbs, which is how FARMA reaches the ten varieties quoted on the pack: canary seed, rapeseed, peeled oats, yellow, red and white millet, linseed, spinach seed and niger seed
• Canary seed and rapeseed form the traditional base of a canary diet
• Spinach seed and niger add the small oily seed canaries seek out, particularly through the moult
• 20 kg sack
• Made in Greece by Farma Friends, a pet-food maker near Thessaloniki that has been blending seed since 1997

Feeding

• A teaspoon to a tablespoon per canary per day. Measure it — canaries put weight on easily with rapeseed in the mix
• Tip the husks off the top of the bowl every day — a bowl that looks full is usually nothing but empty shells
• Add greens, egg food through the breeding season, cuttlefish bone and grit
• Clean, fresh water at all times, changed at least daily in hot weather

Good To Know

• Bread crumbs are filler and carbohydrate, and part of why this mix costs less than the Special
• Rapeseed and niger are oily and go rancid. Keep the sack sealed and cool and use it within a couple of months
• A canary that has stopped singing has usually either come into moult or started to be unwell. Worth a closer look either way
• It is a complete canary feed in FARMA's terms, but no seed mix supplies enough calcium or vitamin A on its own
• A 20 kg sack is aviary and breeder quantity. For one or two birds, buy the retail bag instead — seed goes stale and oily seed goes rancid
