How Much To Give

• Small dogs: up to 1 teaspoon a day. Medium dogs: up to 2. Large dogs: up to 3
• Start at the bottom of the range and build up over a week or two. Going straight to a full dose is the usual cause of loose stools
• Mix it through the food rather than pouring it on top, or a fussy dog will eat around it

Storage

• Keep it cool and out of sunlight, and cap it after each use. Fish oil oxidises in warmth and light, and rancid oil is worse than no oil
• If it smells sharp or paint-like rather than of fish, throw it away

• A teaspoon of oil is pure fat and around 40 calories. On a small dog that is not nothing — take it off the main meal if your dog is carrying weight
• Talk to your vet before starting fish oil if your dog is on medication, has pancreatitis, or is due surgery. High doses of omega-3 can affect how blood clots
• This is a supplement, not a treatment. It supports skin, coat and joint condition; it does not cure a skin disease or arthritis, and a dog in pain needs a vet
• Fish is a common trigger in dogs with food sensitivities. If your dog has itchy skin or recurring ear trouble, fish is worth ruling in or out with a vet rather than feeding more of
