Description
The Dogit Design Cargo Dog Carrier in XXL is a hard-sided travel crate for a genuinely large dog -- 120 cm long and tall enough for a dog standing 90 cm at the shoulder. It is built for transport first, and doubles as a bed or a crate-training box at home.
Key Features
- Size: 120 cm long x 83 cm wide x 88 cm high, for dogs up to a maximum standing height of 90 cm
- Thick-Walled Construction: Heavy plastic with a smooth contoured front entrance, so there are no sharp edges at the opening
- Two-Way Door With A Locking Mechanism: The door opens from either side and locks closed
- Ventilation On All Sides: Reinforced vent openings around the shell rather than slots in one panel
- Waste Collection Gutter: A channel moulded into the floor, which matters on a long journey
- Four Corner Attachment Points: For strapping the crate down, and for the bolts airlines usually ask for
- Colour: Grey base with a grey top
Sizing A Crate
Measure the dog, not the breed. It has to be able to stand up without ducking, turn around without touching the sides and lie flat on its side, and airlines apply that standard strictly. Buy for the adult size if the dog is still growing, and use a divider while it is small -- a puppy given a crate it can cross tends to use one end as a toilet.
About The Airline Claim
Dogit say this carrier meets and exceeds airline regulations. Treat that as a starting point rather than a guarantee, because the rules belong to the airline, not the crate. Call the airline you are flying with, give them the dog's standing height and weight and the crate's exact dimensions, and ask what they require -- carriers for the hold commonly have to be secured with metal bolts rather than plastic clips, to have ventilation on a set number of sides, and to carry live-animal labelling and water bowls. Several countries also require paperwork booked weeks ahead. Confirm all of it before you buy a ticket.
Introducing It Properly
- Open it up in the room the dog already relaxes in and leave it there for days before you expect anything of it.
- Feed meals inside with the door open. Throw treats in and let the dog walk back out freely.
- Build the door up in seconds, then minutes, and always while you are in the room first.
- Never use it as a punishment. A crate the dog has been shut in angrily stops being a safe place, and a dog that panics in a crate in the air is in real trouble.
- Do a full practice run -- a car journey of an hour or two in the crate -- well before a flight.

Good To Know
- Buy for the adult dog. Choose the size from the dog's full-grown height and length, not from how it measures as a puppy.
- Heat is the risk in this part of the world. A hard crate in a car with the air conditioning off becomes dangerous within minutes, and most airlines embargo hold travel for pets altogether through the summer months -- check the dates before you plan a move.
- Snub-nosed breeds are refused in the hold by many airlines regardless of the crate, because of the breathing risk. Confirm your airline's policy before buying anything.
- At this size, measure your car's boot opening before ordering. An XXL crate will not go through most saloon doors.
