Description
Hobby Artificial Aquarium Plant - Aponogeton is an artificial aquarium plant moulded to reproduce a broad-leaved plant with the long, wavy foliage of a real Aponogeton. It is mounted on a weighted artificial rock, which is the detail that matters: it pushes into the substrate and stays there instead of floating up the moment a fish knocks it.
Key Features
- Weighted Rock Base: sits in the substrate and holds. No lead strips to corrode and no suction cups to let go.
- Sizes: 16cm, 25cm and 39cm. The 39cm is a background plant; the 16cm works mid-ground.
- Nothing To Maintain: no light requirement, no CO2, no fertiliser, no trimming and no dying leaves rotting in the water.
- Inert Materials: safe with fish and invertebrates, and it will not affect your water chemistry.
When Artificial Is The Right Answer
- Cichlid and goldfish tanks. Both will uproot or eat live planting. An artificial plant on a weighted base survives both.
- Low-light tanks. If your lighting is decorative rather than plant-grade, live stems will stretch and die. These do not care.
- Quarantine and hospital tanks, where you want cover but need to be able to strip and disinfect the tank completely.
- Be honest about one thing: artificial plants give cover and they look good, but they do nothing for your water. Live plants consume nitrate. If you are using planting to help with water quality, these are not a substitute.
Good To Know
- Pick the size above.
- Rinse it under the tap before it goes in, and have a look for sharp edges or casting flash on any moulded piece.
- Keep decor clear of the filter intake and the heater. Blocking either is how a tidy layout quietly becomes a problem.
- Algae will grow on it eventually, as it does on everything. Lift it out and scrub it under the tap with an old toothbrush - no soap, ever.
- Check the base is properly buried. A half-buried base is what makes an artificial plant look artificial.
