Hobby Aquarium Background - Scaper's Hill & Forest is a printed aquarium background poster with a different scene on each face - Scaper's Hill on one side and Scaper's Forest on the other. It tapes to the outside of the back glass, and it is the cheapest change you can make to how a tank looks.

Fitting It Well

• Measure before you buy. Buy the size that is slightly too big and trim it. A background that is 3cm short is obvious from across the room.
• Trim with a steel rule and a sharp blade, not scissors. A wavy edge shows through the water.
• The water-and-glycerine trick: a mist of water on the glass holds the poster flat against it and kills the air bubbles that otherwise show as silver patches. Tape the edges afterwards.
• Tape the edges only, and use something removable. Double-sided tape across the whole back is a nightmare to undo.
• Dark backgrounds suit fish better. Most fish show more colour and hide less against a dark background. A busy scene looks striking in a shop and can be visually noisy at home.

Good To Know

• Pick the size above. Both sizes are 50cm tall.
• Nothing about this goes in the water.
• Keep it out of direct sun. Printed posters fade, and a sunlit tank has worse problems than that anyway.
• If your tank sits against a wall with a gap, a background is also what stops you seeing the skirting board through the tank.
