Description
JBL Aquarium Hose 12/16 Green - 40 m Roll is a 40 metre roll of green 12/16 mm aquarium hose.
Key Features
- 12 mm bore, the common aquarium size: This is the size the JBL CristalProfi e400, e700 and e900 external filters run on, and the bore most equipment in that class uses.
- Green, so it disappears into the planting: A green hose vanishes against plants and a dark background in a way clear tubing never does, and the tint keeps light out of the bore, which is what stops algae getting established inside it.
- Water changes, filter runs and UV-C: One roll covers the siphon for water changes, the inlet and outlet runs on an external filter, the feed to a UV-C clarifier and the plumbing on a small pond pump.
- Resistant to what an aquarium throws at it: JBL list it as resistant to ozone, oil, salt, acids, alkalis, petrol and greases. The ozone and salt resistance are the ones that matter in practice, on a UV-C or ozone system and on any marine tank where salt creep works away at ordinary tubing.
- Soft walled and flexible: It follows the route you need behind a cabinet without elbows or joints, and every joint you avoid is one less place for a leak to start.
Which Bore Do I Need
- The two numbers are diameters in millimetres: the first is the inside of the hose, the second the outside. A 12/16 hose is 12 mm bore with a 16 mm outside wall, and those two figures are what decide whether it fits your filter's connections and your mounting clips.
- JBL's CristalProfi external filters run 12/16 on the e400, e700 and e900 models, 16/22 on the e1500 models and 19/25 on the e1900 models.
- If you are replacing an existing run and are unsure, measure across the inside of the old hose. One size out either way will either not push on at all or will not seal when it does.
- Mounting clips and FixSets are sold by the same pair of numbers, so the clips that suit your filter carry the same size as the hose that suits it.
Fitting And Looking After It
- Warm the end in hot water for a minute before you push it on. Hose off a roll is stiff and curled, and forcing it on cold is how barbs get snapped and ends split.
- Cut it square with a sharp blade. Scissors crush the end and leave an edge that will not seal properly.
- Push it fully home over the barb, then tighten the screw collar or clamp by hand only. No tools, or you will crack the fitting.
- Keep the run as short and as straight as you can. Every tight bend and every extra metre costs you flow, and a single kink can halve it.
- Hose furs up inside with biofilm over a year or two, which narrows the bore and quietly cuts the filter's output. A flexible hose brush pulled through at service time clears it, and that is very often the answer when a filter seems to have lost power for no reason at all.
- Replace it once it has gone hard, cloudy or will not straighten out. Old hose kinks permanently and cracks where it meets the fittings.
Good To Know
- Forty metres on the roll, which is the longest run we stock and enough to plumb several tanks from one batch.
- Not for pressurised CO2. Ordinary hose is permeable to carbon dioxide and will bleed gas along its whole length, so a CO2 system needs the JBL ProFlora CO2-proof hose instead.
- A full roll is aimed at shops, installers and anyone running a fishroom or several tanks. If you only need a few metres, tell us and we will let you know what we can do.
- For fresh water, marine and small pond use. A full size pond pump usually takes a much larger bore than these, so check the outlet on your pump before you order.
