Description
Terratlantis Glass Terrarium - 88 x 45 x 60 cm is a glass and aluminium terrarium for reptiles and amphibians, front-opening and with the top cover removable, measuring 88 x 45 x 60 cm.
Key Features
- Aluminium frame with a low front profile: Which is what gives the wide, unobstructed view the brand builds this range around.
- Front-opening doors that come off completely: Servicing an enclosure from the front rather than reaching down from above is easier for you and less alarming for the animal.
- Fully removable top cover: Which is how you get a lamp, a cable or your arms into the enclosure without fighting it.
- Air extraction grids below the doors: Ventilation comes in low and leaves through the top, the convection pattern a terrarium wants.
- The taller of the two 88 cm models: Height is what a climbing species uses, and it is also what lets a heat lamp sit far enough from the animal to be safe.
- Black frame: The only finish this range comes in.
A Glass Box Is Not Yet A Habitat
- This is the enclosure. It has no heating, no lighting, no UVB, no thermostat, no thermometer and no substrate in it, and none of those are included.
- What keeps a reptile healthy is the equipment you put in the enclosure and the species you put in it. The box only has to be the right size and hold the conditions steady.
- Tell us the species before you order and we will tell you what else the animal needs, and whether this is the right size for an adult rather than for the animal you are collecting this week.
Heat And Cooling In This Climate, Which Cuts Both Ways
- In an air-conditioned room a glass terrarium runs cold, and that catches people out. A room held at 22 degrees needs more heating than the same enclosure would need in a European summer, not less, and the basking end still has to reach whatever the species requires.
- In a room without air conditioning in summer it runs the other way, and a glass box in a warm room with the sun anywhere near it can reach temperatures that kill an animal in an afternoon. Never site one in direct sunlight.
- Both problems have the same answer: every heat source on a thermostat, a thermometer at the warm end and another at the cool end, and a look at the readings for a week before an animal goes in.
- Run the enclosure empty for a few days with the equipment you intend to use. If it will not hold the gradient the species needs, you want to know that before there is an animal in it.
Good To Know
- The brand gives the empty weight as 29.2 kg. That is glass and frame only - add substrate, decor, a water bowl and any water feature and the loaded weight climbs a long way above it, so the surface underneath wants to be level and genuinely load-bearing.
- A matching Terratlantis cabinet is made for most of this range. Tell us which enclosure you are buying and we will confirm which cabinet actually fits it rather than letting you guess from a number in a title. Worth checking the total height too - a 90 cm cabinet under a tall enclosure puts the viewing window higher than people expect.
- Front-opening doors are also how an animal gets out. For anything that climbs, pushes or is quick, the Terratlantis coded padlock fits these doors.
