Farmina N&D Ocean Herring & Orange Adult Dry Cat Food - 1.5kg

The Farmina N&D Ocean Herring & Orange Adult Dry Cat Food is Farmina's fish recipe for adult cats — herring is the meat in the bowl, with dried sweet orange and other fruit for the plant side.

Key Features

• Herring and dried herring are the first two ingredients, with dried whole egg adding further animal protein
• Analytical constituents: 44% protein, 20% fat, 1.8% fibre, 8.5% ash, 8% moisture, 1.0% calcium, 0.9% phosphorus
• DHA at 0.8% and EPA at 0.5%, with omega-3 at 1.4% overall — roughly half as much again as the chicken and lamb recipes, because it comes straight from the fish rather than from an oil the cat has to convert
• Taurine declared at 0.4%, which cats cannot make in useful amounts and must get from food
• Grain-free, with pea starch and sweet potato in place of cereal
• Dried sweet orange, plus carrot and lucerne
• Made by Farmina, an Italian pet-food company based at Nola, near Naples

Feeding

• Feed to the table printed on the bag, by weight and activity, and weigh the portion rather than scooping it
• Change over across about seven days, mixing a little more of the new food in each day. A sudden switch usually means loose stools
• Can be fed alone or alongside wet food — cut the dry portion back to match
• Always leave fresh, clean drinking water available

Storage

• Store in a cool, dry place and reseal the bag after each use. Grain-free kibble is high in fat and goes stale once air reaches it

Good To Know

• A single-fish recipe is useful for rotating proteins, but it is not a hypoallergenic diet. That needs a vet
• Fish foods smell strong. Some cats take to it immediately and some refuse it outright — buy the small bag first if you are switching
• Weigh the ration. Fish recipes tend to be very palatable and this is an energy-dense food
• Cats on dry food alone drink less water than they need. Wet food alongside, or a fountain, helps — it matters most for male cats, which are the group prone to urinary blockage
• The full composition and the current feeding table are printed on the bag. Farmina revises recipes from time to time, so the pack is the binding version
