Description
The Flamingo Bentonite Clumping Cat Litter with Zeolite, Baby Powder Scent is a 12 kg bag of fine clumping bentonite litter with zeolite mixed through it and a baby powder scent, with granules of 0.3 to 1.2 mm.
Key Features
- Zeolite blended into the clay. Zeolite is a porous volcanic mineral with a very large internal surface area, and it traps ammonia rather than covering it up
- Sodium bentonite base, which binds urine into a firm lump that can be lifted out whole
- Fine granules of 0.3 to 1.2 mm, gentle on paws and the texture most cats choose
- Perfumed with baby powder, and rated by Flamingo as high absorption, economical and low dust
- Flamingo states it is also suitable for kittens
- Made by Flamingo Pet Products, a Belgian pet supplier based in Olen with more than 45 years in the trade
Getting The Best From It
- Most cats prefer a bed of litter around 5 cm deep. Too shallow and they will not dig; too deep and it tips out of the tray
- Scoop the clumps out daily and top up what you remove. Clumping litter works best when you take the waste out rather than change the whole tray
- Top up what you scoop out rather than changing the whole tray every week
- Change litter gradually. Mix the new one in with the old over a week or so, because cats can refuse a tray that suddenly feels or smells different
- Never flush it. Bentonite swells and blocks drains
- Pour it in slowly from close to the tray to keep the dust down
Good To Know
- Zeolite is doing the ammonia control and the fragrance is doing the rest. If odour is your main problem, this is the more useful of the two baby powder bags
- Scented litter is chosen for the person, not the cat. Some cats will not use a heavily perfumed tray at all, so if yours starts going elsewhere, try the unscented version before anything else
- Fine clay tracks on paws. A mat at the tray catches most of it
- Cat faeces can carry toxoplasma. Anyone pregnant or immunocompromised should leave the tray to someone else, or wear gloves and wash their hands afterwards
- 12 kg is roughly a month for one cat at normal use, less in a two-cat house
