Flamingo Viva 2 Cat Scratching Post with Toys - 52cm

The Flamingo Viva 2 Cat Scratching Post with Toys is a sisal scratching post 52 cm tall on a soft plush base shaped like a paw print, with a stick on top carrying a rope and dangling balls.

Key Features

• Post of 8.5 cm diameter wrapped in 4 mm sisal rope, set on a base measuring 34.5 by 36 cm
• 52 cm tall overall, with a 1.8 cm board under the plush to keep it steady
• A rope with balls hangs from a stick at the top, which gives a cat something to chase while it is already at the post
• Flamingo states it contains catnip, which is there to get a cat interested in the post in the first place
• Blue, beige and cream plush at 200 g/m², weighing 1.61 kg complete
• Made by Flamingo Pet Products, a Belgian pet supplier based in Olen with more than 45 years in the trade

Placing It

• Put it where the cat already scratches, not where it suits the furniture. Cats scratch on the routes they use, so a post in a spare room usually gets ignored
• Scratching is how a cat sheds the worn outer sheath of its claws and stretches out its back and shoulders. It is not a habit to be trained out, only redirected
• This size suits kittens and small adult cats. A large cat cannot get a full stretch on a 52 cm post
• Arrives flat for self-assembly. Check the bolts again after a week or two of use, and every few months after that
• If the catnip does nothing, that is normal — roughly a third of cats do not respond to it at all, and kittens under six months usually do not
• Sisal is meant to fray. A shredded post is a post doing its job, and it will need replacing eventually

Good To Know

• This is a single post with a hanging toy, not a multi-level cat tree. There are no perches and no platforms, and the listing previously claimed both
• At 1.61 kg it is light. A heavy cat launching at it will move it, and a cat that tips a post once tends not to go back
• Dangling cord and balls should be checked over. Swallowed string is a serious emergency in cats, and a chewed cord needs removing
• Catnip fades. Once the post stops interesting the cat, fresh catnip rubbed into the sisal usually restarts it
