Covered Or Open

• Most cats want a covered space some of the time and an open one at others, which is exactly what a bed that does both is for
• Nervous cats, cats in a busy household and cats sharing with a dog generally settle better in something enclosed with one entrance
• Confident cats and older cats with stiff joints usually prefer the open version - easier to get in and out of, and easier to see from
• Try it covered first. If they sleep on top of it rather than in it, split it

Where To Put A Cat Bed

• Somewhere the cat already chooses to sleep, not where you would like them to. Watch for a week before you commit to a spot
• Off the floor if you can - cats prefer height, and a raised bed is used far more than one in a corner
• Away from the litter tray, away from the food bowls and out of the through-route of the house
• A bed a cat ignores is usually in the wrong place rather than the wrong bed

Keeping It Clean

• Wash the cushion monthly, or weekly if the pet has skin problems or fleas are being treated
• Wipe the shell at the same time. Moulded plastic is easy, which is the point of it over a fabric bed
• Make sure it is completely dry before the cushion goes back

Who Makes It

• Georplast s.r.l. is an Italian manufacturer founded in 1970, based at Mezzago just outside Milan
• They injection-mould their own plastic rather than buying it in, and the whole pet range is made in Italy
• Design is done with an Italian studio, which is why the trays and carriers look less utilitarian than most of the category

Good To Know

• The shell is weather resistant and fine on a covered balcony, but this is not an outdoor kennel - it offers no insulation and no protection from direct sun
• Suits cats and small dogs. Check the 57x48cm footprint against your animal curled up
• Plastic wears out. Once a tray or bowl is visibly scratched, those scratches hold bacteria and odour that washing will not shift - replace it rather than scrubbing harder
• Colours vary by batch and the photograph is a guide. Pick on size first - the colour is the part that matters least to the cat
