Description

The Groom Professional Cat and Small Pet Soft Slicker Brush is scaled down and softened off for the animals a dog brush is simply too big and too harsh for -- cats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

Key Features

  • Sized for small animals: A 15cm head, which is manageable on a cat or a rabbit
  • Soft pins: Gentle enough for the thin skin cats and rabbits have
  • Lifts dead hair: Takes the loose coat out before the animal swallows it
  • Fluffs the coat: Leaves a long coat lifted rather than flat
  • Dimensions: 15 x 6 x 1.5cm
  • For cats and small pets: Cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and similar

Grooming A Cat Or A Rabbit

  • Short sessions. A minute or two every day beats a wrestling match once a week.
  • Brush with the coat, never against it, and stop before the animal has had enough rather than after.
  • Rabbit skin is extraordinarily thin and tears easily. Use almost no pressure at all.
  • Long-haired cats need the trousers, the armpits and the belly done, which is exactly where they do not want you. Do a little at a time.

Why It Matters More Than It Looks

A cat swallows the loose hair it grooms off itself, and that is what becomes a hairball. Brushing a long-haired cat regularly takes that hair out of circulation. For rabbits it is more serious again -- they cannot vomit, so swallowed fur can cause a gut blockage, and a rabbit that stops eating is an emergency.

Who Makes It

Groom Professional launched in 2009 on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and is sold through the grooming trade supplier Christies Direct. The range was built for working salons rather than for the bathroom cupboard, which is why so much of it comes as a concentrate and in four-litre sizes. Groom Professional say the products are manufactured in the UK.

Good To Know

  • This one is out of stock at the moment, so the page is here for reference while we wait on the next delivery.
  • Never cut a mat out of a cat or rabbit with scissors. Their skin lifts into the mat and is cut through with almost no resistance -- this is one of the commonest injuries vets see from home grooming.
  • A matted cat, or a rabbit with a soiled or matted back end, is a vet or groomer job.
  • Not a toy. Keep it out of reach of pets and children when you are not using it.
  • Check the pins now and again -- a bent pin or a missing tip scratches skin.
