Description

Hobby Reptile Drinking Bowl - Rock Design is the rock-finish version, and the one with the widest choice: three sizes in four colours. It works as a drinking bowl and, in the larger sizes, as a shallow bathing dish.

Key Features

  • Sizes From 10x9x3cm Up To 24x17x4cm.
  • Four Colours: grey, marbled, ochre and red.
  • Rock Finish, which suits a desert or rocky setup.
  • Shallow Enough To Be Safe, deep enough that it does not need refilling twice a day.

Water In A Terrarium, Done Properly

  • Change it daily. A terrarium water dish is warm, often sat in, and frequently defecated in. In UAE temperatures it goes foul within a day, and dirty standing water is a straightforward route to a gut infection.
  • Scrub, do not just rinse. Biofilm forms a slick film you can feel. Hot water and a brush kept only for this job; rinse any disinfectant off completely.
  • Put it at the cool end. A water dish under the basking lamp evaporates fast, drives humidity up and can get hot enough to be unpleasant.
  • Many reptiles will not drink from a bowl at all. Chameleons and most arboreal geckos only recognise moving droplets, so they need misting or a dripper as well. A full, untouched bowl is not proof your animal is hydrated.
  • Watch the humidity. A large open water surface raises humidity considerably. In a desert setup that can matter - a smaller dish may be the right answer.

Good To Know

  • Pick the colour and size above. Hobby's own figures vary a little between colours, so if a precise dimension matters, message us and we will measure the stock.
  • Rinse it before first use.
  • Check it is level and stable. A tipped water dish soaks the substrate, and damp substrate in a warm enclosure grows mould and mites.
  • For a soaking dish, make sure your animal can get out unaided - a smooth-sided dish with no exit is a drowning risk for anything small.
  • Use dechlorinated water if your species is sensitive. Amphibians absorb through their skin and chlorine matters far more to them than to a reptile.
