JBL Clearol - 250ML

JBL Clearol is a clarifier for freshwater aquariums and turtle tanks. It works on the micro-fine cloudiness that a filter will not catch, clumping the particles together so they sink or get picked up by the filter instead of hanging in the water.

Key Features

• For cloudiness a filter misses: JBL aims it at the smallest floating particles, water blooms and bacterial cloudiness.
• Clumps and sinks the haze: once the particles stick together they are big enough to filter out or siphon off the bottom.
• Freshwater tanks and turtle tanks: turtle tanks cloud up quickly, because turtles are messy and most setups are under-filtered for them.
• Two bottle sizes: available in 100ml and 250ml, so you are not buying a large bottle for one cloudy week.
• Dose by water volume: work out the litres you actually have, not the tank's advertised size. Substrate, rock and equipment take up a surprising amount of it.
• Test, then treat: a reading before and after tells you whether the dose did anything. Treating blind is how tanks end up over-dosed.

Getting The Best Out Of It

• Clean or rinse the filter media first. A clogged filter cannot collect what the clarifier clumps together.
• Siphon the bottom a day later. The point of the product is to move the haze somewhere you can remove it, so remove it.
• Do not re-dose straight away if the water is still cloudy. Work out what is feeding the cloudiness instead.

Good To Know

• Keep the bottle closed, upright and out of direct sun. Heat and light shorten the shelf life of any liquid water treatment.
• Keep it away from children and pets, and do not decant it into a drinks bottle.
• A water conditioner is not a medicine. A fish that is visibly ill needs a diagnosis, not a bottle of conditioner.
• A clarifier treats the symptom. Overfeeding, an overstocked tank, a tank that has not finished cycling or a filter that needs cleaning are the usual causes, and none of them are fixed by a bottle.
• Green water in daylight is an algae bloom and needs the light and nutrients dealt with, not just clearing.
