What A Compact UV Lamp Does, Said Carefully

• A compact UV lamp supplies UVB over a small area. That is genuinely useful for a small enclosure or as a top-up in a corner, and it is why this holder exists.
• It does not reproduce sunlight, whatever a lamp of this size is sold as doing. Sunlight is far stronger, falls on everything at once and changes through the day; a 250 mm lamp lights one corner.
• Mount it at the distance the lamp manufacturer states, and make sure the animal can get completely out of the beam. Shade matters as much as the lamp; an animal that cannot escape UV has no way to regulate its exposure.
• UVB output drops long before a lamp stops glowing. Replace on the manufacturer's interval rather than on failure, and write the date on the lamp when you fit it.

Mains Equipment Over An Animal's Enclosure

• Use a socket protected by an RCD, keep the transformer and the plug above and away from any water, and leave a drip loop in the cable so water running down a lead cannot reach the plug.
• Mount it so the animal cannot reach the fitting or the cable. Reptiles climb onto anything warm and chew anything new.
• Switch off at the wall before you put your hands in the enclosure.

Good To Know

• The lamp is not included and the holder is useless without one. Tell us the species and the enclosure size when you order and we will quote the right lamp with it.
• This is a UV fitting, not a heat lamp. A compact UV lamp produces very little usable warmth, so if your species needs a basking temperature you need a separate heat source as well. The Terratlantis Dual Light is the fitting in this range that provides that.
• This is a dry terrarium fitting. It clips to the glass of an enclosure and it should not be mounted over standing water or where a misting system can reach it.
